Lake Zurich is a beautiful village that encompasses the self-contained, and namesake, Lake Zurich within its borders. It lies northwest of Chicago. In 2015, it was rated as the number one area in Illinois for younger families. Previously, in 2006, it had been rated as one of the top one hundred “Best Places to Raise Your Family” by Frommer’s, as well as one of the “Top Twenty-Give Affordable Places to Live in the Country” by U.S News. The little village also gained some notoriety after Sandra Bullock’s character claimed it has her hometown in the film Gravity. Originally, Lake Zurich was founded by European descendants in the 1830s – two notable pioneers were George Ela and Seth Paine, who played parts in helping develop the area. The village of Lake Zurich was officially incorporated on September 29, 1896.
Lake Zurich experiences fairly consistent weather throughout the months, most often in the lower ranges, especially when it becomes colder. Residents and visitors can expect fog, occasional thunderstorms and generally cloudy weather due to the effects of chilling, Northern winds and Lake Zurich itself, as well as Lake Zurich’s higher sea elevation.
