Libertyville School District 128 is comprised of two schools in the Lake County area: Libertyville High School and Vernon Hills High School. Originally, the Libertyville Township High School District was established in 1916, with Libertyville High School being opened one year later. At present, Libertyville School District 128 serves students living in: Green Oaks, Indian Creek, Livertyville, Mettawa, Rondout, Mundelein, Waukegan, and Vernon Hills. Both schools have received frequent praise for the performance of their students. The Illinois State Board of Education date from 2009-2009 revealed that, out of the top ten paying suburban high schools in the state, District 128 was the only district that met Adequate Yearly Progress. Libertyville High School was also ranked third out of all suburban high schools for exceeding science standards. In 2009, U.S News & World Report named both Libertyville High School and Vernon Hills High School in its rankings for America’s Best High Schools for the third year in a row, earning both schools a silver medal status as well as being only two of the six high schools in Lake Coutny to be honored as such.
