Round Lake resides in part of the very northeastern point of Illinois, as well as Chicago. It is a smaller village that sits on its namesake, Round Lake, with the motto: “Real people. Living well, working hard, and having fun.” Round Lake definitely holds true to its motto, even outside of the gorgeous lakefront. The area began its settlement when the Wisconsin glacier began to recede away from western Lake County after the Black Hawk War in 1832. The plentiful lakes helped agricultural movements greatly, as well as an economy of stagecoach trading grounds for what locals could not make on the farm. The railroad railways helped extend out what would become Round Lake, as well as the Armour Company, in 1901, harvesting ice from Round Lake for their car operations. The 1970s and onwards have been a period of annexation for Round Lake, with considerable growth planned.
Round Lake experiences fairly consistent weather throughout the months, most often in the lower ranges, especially when it becomes colder. Residents and visitors can expect fog, occasional thunderstorms and generally cloudy weather due to the effects of chilling, Northern winds and Round Lake itself, as well as Round Lake’s higher sea elevation.
Round Lake lives up to its motto. It is a place to live well, and enjoy life outside of the working hard portion. With areas like Lake Zurich, and other plentiful water bodies in the area, there is no shortage of water recreation. For those who want something outside of the water to do, Round Lake also has plenty of entertainment centers for wanderers, geeks and families alike
