Vernon Hills is an affluent suburb in Lake County, Illinois, and is considered a northern suburb of Chicago. It also serves as a retail hub for surrounding areas, including: Libertyville, Lake Forest, Mundelein, Lincolnshire and Buffalo Grove. What would be Vernon Hills was originally established as a 200 acre farm in 1851 by Richard Theodore Freese, Ron Freese, and Jim Carswell. It wasn’t until the 1950s, when part of said land was purchased for residential expansion and development of a golf course that it would earn the name Vernon Hills. By 1958, Vernon Hills had been established with a residential community consisting of one hundred and twenty-three residents, and would only continue to grow from there, and serve as a multi-faceted hub for shoppers, the U.S army and for citizens who wanted a finer living experience in the Lake County area.
Vernon Hills experiences fairly consistent weather throughout the months, most often in the lower ranges, especially when it comes to the winter months. Residents and visitors can expect fog, occasional thunderstorms and generally cloudy weather due to the effects of chilling, Northern winds and the surrounding Great Lakes and other bodies of water.
